Fore River Transportation (FRT)
Fore River Transportation (FRT) is a shortline railroad providing freight rail services between Fore River Shipyard in Quincy Point and South Braintree, Massachusetts. Operating five days per week - with additional service provided on-demand - FRT interchanges with CSXT at South Braintree, thereby offering rail service connection to the entire North American continental railway system.
FRT operates the Fore River Railroad under a license agreement with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA). The former Shipyard - now owned by Dan Quirk - is currently undergoing revitalization. FRT is available to provide rail service supporting future uses at the Fore River Shipyard.
FRT’s mainline is approximately two miles long between Quincy Point and East Braintree. FRT operates via trackage rights over MBTA/AMTRAK from East Braintree to South Braintree, another approximately 1 1/2 miles.
